COMPETITORS’ PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY

Competitors in sanctioned regattas must be members in good standing of a national Shark
Class association.

It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure their membership is in good standing. Memberships can not be taken out or renewed at regattas. This must be done in advance through the National Association office or web site.

Competitors must be ready to provide proof of their eligibility at any sanctioned regatta. Valid proof of eligibility is 1) a current year’s membership card, and 2) a valid measurement certificate, and 3) a Class Assoc. sticker affixed to the boat.

ENTRIES – CSCA SANCTIONED REGATTAS (excl. “World” competitions)

2.1 The regatta is open to Shark class sailboats.

2.2 In addition to the requirements of RRS 75.1, a boat must be entered by a member in good standing of a Shark class national association, and that person must be the “person in charge” (RRS 46).

2.3 RRS 78.1 is modified so that a boat which does not comply with class rules concerning measurement or does not have a valid measurement certificate may compete, and will not be subject to protest under the rule,if:

a) it complies with all other class rules,

b) it has not competed in another CSCA-sanctioned counter regatta that year,

c) it has not been issued a valid measurement certificate within the past five years, and

d) the person in charge has signed the “statement of understanding” on the Entry Form.

ELIGIBILITY TO COMPETE IN CSCA/ISCA SANCTIONED REGATTAS

In order to be eligible to compete in a CSCA sanctioned regatta, the registered “competitor” must be a paid-up full member of the CSCA. A full member, by definition is:

A "Full Member" of the Canadian Association is an owner or equal share owner of a Shark who has applied for membership and paid the required fee. A Full Member is entitled to all rights and privileges of membership in the Canadian Association.

A member may not participate in any Canadian Association sponsored event until membership fees have been paid.

ISCA Requirements (for national, continental and World Championships)

A representative of a country competing in the World Championships must be a citizen of that country and a bona fide member of a yacht club of that country.

Helmsmen or skippers in World, Continental and National Championships shall be full members of the ISCA.

Further, the boat must have a valid measurement certificate with the current year’s sticker affixed as noted in the constitution.

Compliance

It is the responsibility of the competitor to ensure that his membership is fully paid prior to competing in a sanctioned event. The constitutions state:

CSCA (5.12)

A member may not participate in any Canadian Association sponsored event until membership fees have been paid.

ISCA (7c)

… individual Member who has not paid the annual contribution within two months of the due date may cease to be officially recognized by the Association and lose the privileges and benefits of membership of the Association under these rules, but may be restored to the list of officially recognized National Associations and individual Members at the discretion of the Committee and payment of any subscriptions due.

Membership period is one year from January 1 through December 31. Fees are due and payable on receipt of invoice. Invoices are mailed in the first quarter of each year or earlier.
