SHARK OF THE YEAR

In 1983 the Canadian Shark Class Association implemented an overall CSCA annual championship series to be known a "Shark of the Year"

This championship scores results in a number of regional Shark regattas, known as "counters". These regattas are sponsored by the various regions within the CSCA.

This series represents Shark racing at its highest and most competitive level. Any yacht competing in this series must be serious and organized to the extent that it can competitively participate in at least four regattas, one being a week long affair such as the Worlds or CORK, and usually involving trailering or sailing long distances to the various venues.

In order for a regatta to qualify as a "counter", certain conditions must be addressed. These are that all participants must be current members of its National Class Association with yachts that are measured and comply with the class rules.

While the number of counters can vary from year to year (see events marked (C) in the current CSCA Racing Schedule) the following is fairly representative of a season's activities.
